CAMDEN
Maybe all the Camden Riversharks games should be this quick.
The Sharks finished a three-game sweep of Long Island with a 6-3 win Thursday behind the arm of Jeff Love, who went eight innings with five strikeouts and three earned runs.
Jimmy Williams continued to be among the league leaders in saves as he entered the game for the final inning to pick up his 20th of the year.
``(Pitching coach Steve Foucault) told me not to pace myself,'' said Love, who improved to 5-5 on the year. ``He told me to go out there and give it all I have every inning. I got great D behind me. (Dwight) Maness and all the guys really gave me the offensive support I needed.''
Maness went 3-for-3, including two home runs to raise his season total to 15. In a game that was played in 2 hours, 10 minutes, the Sharks worked quickly to get a lead and keep it.
That's a good thing because it allowed the 3,948 fans at Campbell's Field to leave before spectators at the Jimmy Buffet concert left the nearby Tweeter Center.
"Jeff Love gave us a boost because he went a strong eight innings in a spot start," Sharks manager Wayne Krenchicki said. ``It's good to see Dwight break out offensively because we're a different team when he's hot.''
Long Island carried a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning, but lost it when the Riversharks scored three times and took the lead for good. A run-scoring double by Maness and another by Guillermo Garcia highlighted the rally.
