CAMDEN
Kim Batiste was just doing his job Sunday when he went 3- for-4 including two doubles to lift the Camden Riversharks to a 10-6 win in the second of a three-game series against Lehigh Valley.
Trailing by two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Batiste's double drove in two runs to tie the game at 4 and sparked a two-out, four-run rally. Nelson Abreu and Joe Goodwin following with RBI singles.
"I'm just one of nine guys in the lineup," said Batiste, who entered the game hitting .245 with seven doubles. "And I'm just doing my job. I just had to be patient, step back and do what I'm supposed to do."
The Diamonds' Harvey Hargrove also did his job when he hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning, his sixth of the season, tying the game at six.
But not for long.
The Riversharks collected six hits and four more runs off Diamonds reliever Antonio Diaz in the bottom of the eighth to seal the win.
Abreu singled to left-center to drive in Brad Strauss, a Haddon Township graduate who singled to lead off the inning, to give the Riversharks the lead for good. Goodwin, John Dorman and Jacob Brumfield also singled to drive in the insurance runs.
"I've been in the same situation in other games," Abreu said through an interpreter. "I've had this opportunity and haven't come through. But today was a very good game for me and I feel a lot more confident now."
Batiste saw Abreu's game-winning hit as sign of the team' s improvement.
"For me to do that," said Batiste referring to his clutch hit in the sixth, ``and see some of the younger players get in clutch situations, take their time and do the same thing is good."
Rod Bolton (3-7) pitched the seventh and eighth innings, giving up a home run, walking one and striking out two, to earn the victory. Dwight Maness' solo home run in the fourth was his seventh of the year.
