Pride overpower Riversharks in slugfest

Courier-Post Staff
NASHUA, N.H.

The fireworks started Wednesday at Holman Stadium a little earlier than at most Fourth of July venues around the country.

That's because the Camden Riversharks and Nashua Pride combined for 32 hits, including five homers, as the Pride outlasted the Sharks 12-8 in an Atlantic League baseball matinee, watched by 2,366 fans.

The Riversharks, led by three hits and three RBIs from right fielder Jacob Brumfield, owned an 8-6 lead after five innings but couldn't hold it. Sam Horn's two-run double keyed a three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning that gave Nashua the lead for good, 9-8.

Reliever Mark Seaver, who yielded six hits and five earned runs in 1— innings, was the losing pitcher and fell to 2-5. He had replaced starter Derek Root, who surrendered 10 hits and six earned runs, to start the sixth. Rod Bolton mopped up for Camden.

The first of Jose Malave's two homers, a three-run shot, helped the Pride jump to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Camden countered with a run in the second and added four more in the third, when Brumfield hit a three-run homer.

John Dorman hit a two-run home run for the Riversharks in the fourth, as they moved in front 7-4. Dorman finished with two runs and two RBIs to go with his three hits. Camden added another run in the fifth and carried an 8-6 lead into the sixth, when Nashua seized control.

The series continues at 7:05 tonight and concludes at 7: 05 p.m. Friday.
