Excerpts of Neulander's 9-1-1 call on Nov. 1, 1994

Telephone rings.
DISPATCHER: 9-1-1. State the emergency.

RABBI: I, I ah, I just came home and my wife is on the floor and there's blood all over. I, I, I don't know what to do.

DISPATCHER: OK. Is there any weapons around her, sir?

I can't. I don't know.

Does she appear to be breathing?

No, no, there's blood all over.

OK, we'll send somebody down.

No, wait a minute. I've got another problem. My son is an EMT. I can't, I just....

We'll send somebody down. Calm down sir.

Wait a minute. Now, he's gonna hear. He's gonna hear this call, call. He's an assigned EMT.

I have to send somebody down, sir.

Ah, ah, oh, God.

Calm down. Hold on a second. OK. Sir?

Where, where have you been?

Do you see any weapons around her, sir?

No, I don't see anything. I don't see a thing.

......

Are you OK?

No, my wife's on the floor.

I and....

Oh, I don't want to.... Should I touch her? Should I not touch her?

Just leave everything the way it is sir and stay on the phone with me until the first police officers get here.

Ah, ah.

Sir?

Yes.

Do you need an ambulance? Are you all right?

I'll be all right. How, how, how would you think? I, I can't oh, sh.... I don't know what all right is... There's blood over everything.

Don't touch her.

.....

We're on the way sir. Can you tell if she's breathing?

I, I, I can't tell. I don't think so.

You can't tell?

I can't tell her. Do I touch her or should I do anything? What? I don't think so. Oh, my God.

(Indiscernible background noise)

OK, just.

There's blood all over. I, I, do you want me to touch her?

Excuse me?

... Do you want me, Do you want me to throw (inaudible).

No, no, just, just, just calm down. I want you to calm down, OK? That's what I want you to do.

.......

You are seated?

Yeah.

OK. Because we're going to have a medic come and check you out because you don't sound too good either.

But my, did you hear son? Do you understand what I'm saying?

I understand exactly sir. But we have, we have nothing to do with their, with the, with the EMTs and you know we dispatch them from here. Camden County dispatches the medics and the ambulances.

Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh.

......

OK, do you see the officer there, sir?

Yeah, he's coming.

OK.

What do you want me to do now?

Hang up the phone and speak to the officer.

What do you want me to do?
