CAMDEN
The trial of Daniel M. Daidone, a businessman charged with accepting funds used to facilitate corruption in former Mayor Milton Milan's administration, is set to start Sept. 9.
Also set to go to trial that day is former city council President James R. Mathes Jr., who's charged with accepting a diamond ring to intercede for mob-related businesses seeking contracts with Camden.
Their trial will be in U.S. District Court here before Judge Joseph H. Rodriguez.
Among allegations in the indictment against the pair are that Daidone paid for a four-day Florida golf trip for Milan and his girlfriend.
During Milan's federal trial on corruption charges in fall 2000, government informer Ralph Natale, a former mob boss, testified he would give Daidone cash-filled envelopes to deliver to Milan.
