Glass is made from a mixture of
ingredients called batch. The primary ingredient in batch is silica sand. Fluxes
(soda ash and lime) are added to the
silica sand to make it melt at a lower
temperature. The mixed raw materials are melted in a furnace at 2,500°. In its molten state, glass may be formed into a variety of objects.
