'New
Jersey' at War
The
battleship New Jersey, sister ship of the Mighty Mo, has suffered
her first casualty.
One of the most powerful sea warriors in the
world, the New Jersey won 11 battle stars in the Pacific war.
She covered more than 220,000 miles without being hit by enemy
action or suffering a single casualty, although she took part
in such campaigns as Kwajalein, Truk and Okinawa.
Now, the Navy reports one sailor killed and
three wounded by enemy batteries while the New Jersey hurled
the weight of its one-ton shells at Wonsan.
Tragic as it is to hear that the big ship
has suffered its first casualties, Jerseyites may again take
pride in the fact that "their" battlewagon again is
distinguishing herself on the warpath.
